Nike Refurbished Explained

The purpose of this program is to extend the life of footwear products sold by Nike. By refurbishing sneakers and selling them at reduced price points, Nike is able to reduce their carbon emissions, reuse product and donate a large amount of footwear. While simultaneously providing consumers with footwear at an affordable price.

Nike Refurbished Process

  • Step 1

    Footwear specialist inspect items that have gone through Nike’s return process

  • Step 2

    Items are then graded by the refurbishing experts as “like new, gently worn, or cosmetically flawed (B-grade)”.

  • Step 3

    Each item is expertly cleaned and sanitized using the restoration process found in the official Nike Refurbished manual.

  • Step 4

    Finished products are distributed and sold at a reduce price. Currently, there are 15 participating Nike outlet / factory stores. This helps reduce Nike’s carbon footprint and provides consumers with a range of product at a reduced price.

Quantitative contributions

  • Reconstructed the business's previous sneaker restoration process, which led to a processing increase of an additional 1500 pairs per month. Trained coworkers and implemented new strategies on the more effective process, resulting in a 40% increase in efficiency and quality while decreasing customer service issues.

  • Documented the restoration changes above in order to create the official manual for Nike Refurbished’s global restoration process, which contributed to over 3 million dollars in outlet sales in 3 months.

My contribution to the program was the identification and selection of footwear products for Nike’s formal category campaign social launch, resulting in over 1 billion impressions across all platforms such as Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and local / international news sources.
